How to Buy a Radar Gun

There are several types of radar guns available on the market today, depending on your application you should choose radar speed detector right for you. Some radar guns have dual applications - which can be used for sports as well as traffic control.  There are speed radar guns which are designed with specific use in mind. Sport radar guns are preferred by athletes, coaches and fathers.  Traffic control police radar guns are specifically designed for law enforcement agencies.  Please see below for specific applications and precise radar gun models RadarGuns.com recommends.

Sport Radar Guns

BASEBALL / SOFTBALL (tracking the speed of a pitched or thrown baseball or softball)

Both the Bushnell Velocity radar gun and Bushnell Speedster II radar gun will work well for baseball and softball (especially little league baseball and recreational league softball).  Those applications generally do not use large diamonds, so the Bushnell radar speed guns will be able to accurately track the speeds of a pitcher throwing a baseball or softball.  Another possibility for these applications is the Sports Radar Speed Gun (which can also be purchased with a monitor that can be viewed by the players).  SpeedTrac Speed Radar Gun, which is a hands free model is another good choice (especially during a practice or bullpen session when it can be placed between the pitcher or catcher).

For high school and college level baseball and softball, where the diamonds are a little larger, we would recommend the Sports Radar Speed Gun SR3600, or the JUGS radar gun models.  JUGS speed guns, have long been used in these levels of baseball and softball as well as professional leagues.

Sport Sensors offer two models of Swing Speed Radar, which can track your bat speed (how fast you swing a bat through the strike zone). Glove Radars are small speed tracking gadget that a player place on his fielding glove to track the speed of a throw.  NOTE:  Sport Sensors GloveRadar will not fit on a catchers’ mitt or a first basements’ mitt, because it is designed to fit over the fingers of a fielding glove.

TENNIS / GOLF

Sport Sensors Swing Speed Radar is great for those who want measure their swing speed; determine their speed for optimum performance; monitor their swing consistency; and select the golf club characteristics that best suit their swing. On the other hand, if you are looking for a perfect tennis radar gun, SpeedTrac should be an easy choice. It is the only hands free sports radar speed gun on the market today, which was engineered to increase the ability to identify and track a target.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

RadarGuns.com offers several choices for use in traffic control ranging from neighborhood watch, to look out for cars drag stripping down side streets, up to state and local law enforcement agencies upholding traffic laws.

Both the Bushnell Velocity and Bushnell Speedster II radar speed gun will work well for residents looking out for speed violators in the neighborhood.  The Sports Radar Speed Guns SR3600 is also recommended for this application.

Law enforcement agencies prefer the Decatur radar guns. Decatur radars are more sophisticated, and can be designed specifically to fit certain state or local laws.

NOTES: Some of the applications that our line of radar guns would not work for are, model airplanes, speed boats, or anything where the object may be too small or too far away, or at an acute angle which would compromise the accuracy.
