Target Reflectivity Effects – Target Size, Shape and Composition Effects

Understanding target reflectivity is accomplished by basically studying the size, shape, and composition of the vehicle and the relationship of shape, size, and composition to other vehicles.

  • Size - A radar will be more sensitive to large objects
  • Shape - The size of a vehicle determines to a large degree whether radar waves are reflected directly back towards the radar antenna or if the radar signal is reflected at an angle
  • Vehicle Composition - All vehicles currently on the market today, will reflect police radar beams. Because vehicles reflect the radar beam differently it is safe to say that target reflectivity does complicate target identification
